How can you make progress with your business when your kids are sick?

I’m always filled with dread when I get the too-early-in-the-day call from my child’s nursery. It normally means my child is sick and needs to be picked up, and my plan for the day put down the toilet.

If its a stomach bug, the next 3 days (as a minimum) will be dedicated to changing nappies, cleaning clothes, and showering with the little darling.

So, I’m often asked by other Parentpreneurs whether, during these 3 (or more) delightful days, there is anything you can do to make progress with your business.

Here’s what I suggest you do:

1. Relax

Your top priority is your little one, therefore you are working on your top priority by keeping them alive. Feel good about that, and don’t give yourself a hard time if other things aren’t moving forward.

2. Prioritise

Write a list of 3 small tasks that if you did this week would be great for your business. Prioritise them, so that if you only did one, it would have a great impact on your business. (E.g. Calling a key client, Briefing a member of your team etc.)

3. Attack your top priority when you can

When you get even 10 minutes (perhaps when your child is napping or eating) work on the top item on your list. Anything you can do to move this forward is a huge achievement that you can be proud of.

4. Combine play with exercise

You need to stay fit and healthy if possible. Try baby aerobics / yoga, dancing, or some exercise whilst providing your little one with the care and attention they need at this difficult time. (In my case, Sasha loves dancing with me, whereas Ethan loves ‘flying’ while I lift him via press-ups and sit-ups).

5. Enjoy it

You probably don’t often get focused time with your little one where they just want cuddles – so try to enjoy it!
