013: Cara Sayer – from nervous breakdown to a booming business

Podcast Artwork - 013 - Cara Sayer

In this amazing interview with Cara Sayer, the inventor and founder of Snoozeshade, we explore her journey as a Parentpreneur. This includes how she survived post-natal depression and a nervous breakdown, made her first sales to Jojo Maman Bebe, divorced her husband, and built an impressive business selling her products all over the world.

Her invention, Snoozeshade, is a special kind of sun shade that helps babies to sleep while in their prams.

Since starting her business in 2010, Cara has received over 60 awards for her products which are now stocked by Amazon, Tesco, Mamas and Papas, John Lewis, Bloom and Grow, and many more.

Cara has dealt with some phenomenal personal challenges whilst starting out as an entrepreneur, including failed IVF, and a nervous breakdown.

Then, shortly after becoming a Parent and entrepreneur, Cara’s marriage broke down and she decided to get divorced, which she says was “the best business decision she’s ever made”.

In this interview, Cara shares her experiences and tips for surviving the difficulties this presented, and the silver linings she didn’t expect. We also go deep into how she managed to get her business off the ground with some very early interest from major buyers such as Jojo Mamam Bebe and John Lewis, and how she felt able to make the (risky) decision to buy £30,000 of stock early on.
